Shun Lu:

We are interested in studying the immune regulatory function of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) in the context of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). Pbx1 and p18 have been identified as the genes corresponding to the Sle1a1 and Sle2c1 lupus susceptibility loci. We hypothesize that the  Pbx1 and  p18 lupus alleles impair the functions of MSCs and HSCs. Our current work focuses on characterization of the molecular and cellular pathways and in vivo functions affected by the Pbx1 and p18 lupus alleles in MSCs and HSCs in mouse models as wells as in human cells.
