Autoreactive CD4+ T cells are a key feature of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It has been shown that cell metabolism is an important checkpoint for T cell activation and proliferation. I am trying to characterize the metabolic abnormalities in SLE CD4+ T cells. I am also interested in the role of Estrogen Related Receptor Gamma (Esrrg), a lupus susceptibility gene involved in cell metabolism, in CD4+ T cell autoimmunity. My research may lead to novel SLE treatment targeting CD4+ T cell metabolism.
